Sorry

Sorry I haven't been posting lately (lately? Who am I kidding?! Its been months!). Anyways, I've been pretty busy with school, traveling, soccer, writing, etc. But I'm going to try to keep this blog updated, and with summer break here, it shouldn't be difficult.

Here's some bookish/write-ish things that have stolen some (…or most…) of my time these past few months:

Movies:

Divergent:

I watched Divergent as SOON as it hit theaters. It was AMAZING. To be honest, I went into the theater having low expectations. I didn't like the casting choices and the first few trailers weren't what I had imagined when I was reading the book. I was still super excited to see it, so I went with my other geeky friends and we all dressed up as different factions. I dressed as an Abnegation and felt pretty awesome when people were like "Hey! I know what you are!" We got in line an hour and a half prior (haha- see what I did there?) to the screening, being the first ones in line. Then, an hour and a half later, I was sitting next to my Dauntless friend, clutching each other as the movie began to play. We were pretty much screaming, crying, laughing, and smiling throughout the whole film, people around us getting pretty annoyed at all our fangirl-ing.

This movie is now one of my favorites, and is one of my friends' absolute favorite. It was a pretty epic start to the series, I'd say being better than The Hunger Games (didn't beat Catching Fire though). Sure, some parts were left out, like Edward getting stabbed in the eye and Tris beating up Molly, but it still was a faithful adaption. I was so happy when I heard exact quotes from the book. Ahhhgggg!!!! I just can't wait for Insurgent!

The Fault In Our Stars:

I literally have no words. It was captivating, touching, and an ugly sob bringer just as the beautiful novel in which it was based. Again, went to the movie opening night with my fellow geeks. We laughed and sobbed, sharing the TFIOS tissue box I had decorated. Left the theater a mess and then went back to see it again the next day… of course. I'm actually going to see it again, for the third time, with my grandma because I just like to punish myself with the public embarrassment of drowning to death in my ocean of tears caused by my Augustus Waters obsession. Beautiful book. Beautiful movie. No more words to be spoken on this depressing, yet smile bringing, topic.

Delirium:

I watched the pilot twice and enjoyed it, but there was so much left out! I don't understand why they would pack the whole first book into forty minutes of film!

Books:

Read:

Okay, I have read quite a few books lately so I'll just take the easy route and try to write a short review for each. Time to visit Goodreads!

An Abundance Of Katherines and Paper Towns and Looking For Alaska:
Author: John Green

I plan to create another post dedicated entirely to John Green's books after I finish Will Grayson, Will Grayson and maybe pick up Let It Snow. So I will not be reviewing these now, but keep up with my blog to hear my thoughts in a later post.

Thirteen Reasons Why:
Author: Jay Asher

I read this book within a day; I picked it up before I went to bed and finished it when I woke up the next morning. Obviously, the story was very intriguing and captivating. I really enjoyed it. But, I did have some problems with the book.
1) The reasons why Hannah committed suicide were somewhat believable in the aspect that they happen to people but what was unbelievable is that she'd kill herself because of them. Sure, maybe some would off themselves for her reasons, but her reasons are things billions of people have gone through. The thought that she would kill herself for going through some of the situations angered me at times, though some of the other situations were really devastating. It was sad that she did what she did, my eyes watered while reading this novel, but I feel like she shouldn't have done what she did and didn't have a good reason to. She could have tried to get help from her parents or someone else, just because one person didn't help her didn't mean that no one would.
2) The main character, Clay? He kept thinking about things so off topic and some parts were not very organized because of this, making it confusing at times.

Memoirs Of A Teenage Amnesiac:
Author: Gabrielle Zevin

I read this a while ago for a school book report and don't remember much, but I do remember liking it. I gave it four or three stars on Goodreads.

Throne Of Glass:
Author: Sarah J. Mass

LOVED IT!!! One of my new favorite series! As soon as I read it, I recommended it to all my friends who also devoured it. Definitely a must read! Nothing more really to say besides Celeana is awesome. ;)

Faking Normal:
Author: Courtney C. Stevens

I really enjoyed this book, I gave it five stars on Goodreads I believe. I checked it out of the school library only having skimmed the summary and having my friend tell me it sounded good. I guess it was a good snatch because I loved the book and Bodee's koolaid hair. I recommend picking it up.

The Running Dream:
Author: Wendelin Van Draanen

This was a great book. I was hooked on the first page. I think the reason why I like this book so much is because I related to the main character in some ways. Jessica is experiencing what it is like not to be able to do the thing she loves, running, because she lost her leg in an accident and I just couldn't help but relate the slightest because I have a foot condition that keeps me away from doing my favorite sport, running, and sometimes walking. I loved Jessica and Rosa's friendship, Rosa made me think more about how people treat people with special needs at school and opened my eyes to how people with mental conditions feel. I also loved Jessica's best friend Fiona and the support she gave her, she reminded me of my best friend and the support she gives me 24/7, no matter what.

City Of Heavenly Fire:
Author: Cassandra Clare

   A. M. A. Z. I. N. G. Loved it! It was a great conclusion to the series and got me hyped for The Dark Artifices.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children:
Author: Ransom Riggs

It was a good read. I haven't yet picked up the second installment, but will soon. It was action and picture packed and deliciously creepy (especially Enoch).

Writing:

In the past few months, I've been devoting time into a new manuscript. A manuscript I'm finally going to try to get published! I'm not going to say much about it until I get farther into it, but I will tell you it's not the dystopian, fantasy, sic-fi stuff I usually write. It would be categorized into contemporary I believe. I've been trying out a new way of writing this one and so far my method has made it a lot easier. I've planned out the whole book by chapter, listing in detailed bullets what happens when. It really has been decreasing my writers block and making writing faster. I will try to post the fist chapter (or maybe a little more) in the near future.

I will update soon,
                      Morgan
